Behind the scenes of the hit play Inheritance, ALL EMOTIONS ARE WELCOME. A curious, loving and humorous portrait of the people behind the successful play Arv at the Royal Dramatic Theatre from rehearsals, audience admission to applause. We follow behind the scenes and meet the director, dramaturge, translator, stage manager and actor, as well as the make-up artist, prompter, prop master, sound engineer, audience host, dresser and journalist when they join forces with others in the production to deliver a performance that went to full houses during the winter of 2023. Seats for 2024 sold out in a matter of hours.
The documentary poses the question of how we create more inclusive spaces as a response to the exclusion that the group of homosexuals has been subjected to. It can be about leaving our bubble and visiting others, but also about lifting the shame to the light and releasing it, together. Something that a living theatre, seen as the church of secular society, makes possible.
ALL FEELINGS WELCOME explores the seam between the private and the public, the space we give each other to express our feelings, as well as how these norms shift over time. The documentary paints a picture of a non-hetrosexual space where there is room for anyone who wants to. Soon it will be less about an us-and-them, but a larger us where all emotions are welcome. The result is a celebration of the power of theatre to turn polarisation into a respectful community that celebrates all of our differences.
