The short documentary "The Child Murderess of Vesene", directed by Carl Eneroth, transports us to unsettling locations of a small country village in Sweden 1929 where Ingeborg drowned her own three children in a washtub at the age of twenty-seven. We revisit the murder scene, the courthouse where Ingeborg was sentenced, and the cemetery where Ingeborg's children lie. It is a story about a murderess, but also about the humanity Ingeborg's relatives showed when handling the taboo that followed in a time when mental illness had few cures other than discipline, hard work and praying for forgiveness. After having done the unthinkable, is there a way back for Ingeborg to a normal life? Will her husband, the love of her life, take her back?
The documentary is based on a book "It came to me in a whim" by Maria Bouroncle who, through extensive research, has strived to shed light on what led up to this tragedy involving her great-aunt that had been a tightly guarded family secret for over seventy years.

"Maria Bouroncle takes us deep into a story of real-life murder to show us the humanity - even love - behind the crime. A riveting read - haunting, atmospheric, and ultimately, heart-breaking."
